ON EDGE OF MY SEAT, November 19, 2014
By Wanda L - The Boy in The Wood (Kindle Edition)
I found this to be a truly compelling story. In this world that we live in and the times we live in, people will do crazy things. Even with their beautiful children that they "love" so dearly. The book was an eye opener for me. I stayed on edge the whole time. Thanks for a great book!

By charles cramer -  The Boy in The Wood (Kindle Edition) I thought the book held your interest by the way it would go from present time to the past,so as to give you background on the family. It keep you wondering what was going to happen next.

Comment from Linda L. Of Tennessee
"I met you at the local library, you handed me this book, I told you I would give you my thoughts....
Compelling story, components of the journey through the chapters in the lives of this family were heartfelt to read, the feelings come through in such strong and simple words and scenes.
I am pleased to recommend this read.....I was drawn into the ability of the husband/father to do all that he did to right his family, in the way he saw to do so."

A love hate relationship with this book
BySamantha ronewiczon December 28, 2015

Got the book because i was told about. After read the first chapter I was really anxious to see if my theories about the secrets and the ending were correct. Read it in one sitting..... I was not correct.... The parts of the story you could tell where real to the author sucked me in............... But the realities of the "evils" in this story conjured up such hate and disgust in me as a father I almost quit reading. I'm glad I stuck in there.

5.0 out of 5 starsTrue to life?
ByJan Acheyon November 16, 2015

This is a great story. It is almost like the author lived it. The boys are fun, entertaining, and show an abundance of love and understanding. It is hard to accept the evil men can come up with and inflict on children. Heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.0 out of 5 stars

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent first effort, February 2, 2014 By William Gordon -Verified Purchase~ The Boy in The Wood (Kindle Edition) The depth of feeling aroused by this new author could only come from some real life experiences. Anyone who has any doubts about the evil people are inflicting on others should read this book. It is both an eye opener and entertaining. A real page turner.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

***It should be noted, some of the content of this book may not be suitable for all persons. This Book does NOT contain graphic details of sexual abuse.***

Brian was looking forward to his sixth birthday. He lived in a new town, the family was going to a new church and he made new friends. But what he got was a week of absolute terror. It ended when he stopped his mother from being murdered, the first time. The terror rolled into a dark evil present in his father. An evil he could not escape. His father was obsessed with an idea all his own, an idea that feed into a life of horror for Brian.
Brian was looking forward to his ninth birthday. He made three new friends, lived in a new state and was a Boy Scout. But what he got was his father’s vengeance. On the night of December thirty first nineteen seventy seven, four boys, one betrays, one dies, and two fight for their lives.

This account covers the first 9 years of my life. The latter half deals with my life in Texas. My father used me in the "Houston - Boys for Sell" sex trade. I don't focus on the sexual abuse acts or the photo sessions, instead I focus on my relationship with 3 other boys and what became of David and why. So although this book does deal with child abuse, I avoid retelling the graphic details and instead focus on my feelings, thoughts and relationships at the time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Being a person who runs nonprofit that fights against child abuse and exploitation, I have read many books of people’s testimonies accounting their past child abuse, but this one took real courage to write because the author is not only a man, but is still under threat from his abusers to this day.  The book is a mixture of truthful accounts mixed with sensationalized fiction in the form of a novel.  The things that were truthful were terrible and shocking but the parts that are not true for the main character of this book, are all but true for many boys that are exploited for sex through human trafficking and in their local communities.  Communities where the boys that are sold for sex have no one to report these crimes to, because the people they should be reporting it to, are their perpetrators.   I’m so tired of this subject being swept under the rug!  David’s Mark is a great book to expose the emotional torture, near fatal physical abuse and unspeakable sexual abuse that really does happen to millions of children every day.  And even though it may be hard to read for someone who is not normally exposed to these types of stories, it is still a book that needs and deserves to be read.  I believe awareness is the best way to grab the conscience of society and inspire change.  Well done DeWayne!" 4.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't get more real than this., March 14, 2014
By William Gordon -  David's mark (Paperback) I spent 25 years working in a major city police department in the Northeast. If you asked me if I knew what evil was before I read "David’s mark" I would have scoffed at the question. Now, after reading this book I can see that even with my background I was unaware of the abject wickedness parents can subject their child to.
This second effort by DeWayne Watts is a must read for anyone who deals with children in any official capacity. I would hate for some child somewhere to ask for help with a similar situation and not be believed because it is so utterly unbelievable. This is not a book for the young or faint of heart.

Loved this book... Healing Prayers to all involved in this tragic story, being a person that was molested by a family member as a kid and not being allowed to have him prosecuted for his awful crime and having family members take his side and not believe me. I fully understand the heart ache you feel..

This book is sometimes very hard to get through, but it's a story we all need to know. As unbelievable to accept as it seems, this does happen. I don't know how to end this abuse, but I have nothing but praise for its author. His courage in revealing this horror is heroic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timely and exciting,
October 19, 2014
By William Gordon -  Still With Eyes Closed (Kindle Edition) This is by far Mr Watts' best book yet. I would put it in the same league as any of the NYT Best Sellers I've read. This is a fresh, original, exciting approach to a very timely topic. We can only hope the sequel is not far behind.

5.0 out of 5 stars very good book. A page turner, October 13, 2014
By Linda E. Howell - Still With Eyes Closed (Paperback) very good book. A page turner. it clearly tells you what happens when you try to change things to your way of wanting.
Jim was born into opulence, power and money. Yet at age 12 he fell in love with a 10 year old poor girl. When Jennifer turned 18 the two married in the park under the tree where they first met. It was a storybook love affair.
Years later his beloved was stricken with cancer and told she had 6 months to live, all of Jim’s money could not save her; he resigned himself to her death and planned his own. Her agony continued for two years and Jim remained there to attend to her every need. When they had lost all hope and with death approaching medical science had broken through, but the FDA had concerns, fears. A special medical committee was assigned to govern the research to develop the serum that would end cancer, HIV, mental illness and even genetic birth defects. The FDA refused approval; the manner in which the serum was obtained would bring on lawsuits and perhaps even prison. The special committee developed a third option when the first and second failed. In the end the serum was approved and by the year 2080 humankind was free of the ravages of sickness, but was the price worth it? The medical committee kept their darkest secrets hidden from public scrutiny; secrets that if ever revealed would destroy the new world they had built.
“Still With Eyes Closed” takes a look at the darkest side of medical science. A chilling glimpse at the length mankind is willing to go to obtain a life free is sickness. A medical thriller full of suspense that will leave you questioning if this is the current course of medical research today.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed reading this book, November 10, 2014
By derronia groce - Still With Eyes Closed (Paperback) I really enjoyed reading this book , I was so caught up in the characters and what would happen next that I didnt want the story to end. great job !
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"There's a lot of post-apocalyptic novels out there. Most are quite typical. "Still with Eyes Closed" was the first one that made me think, hope, and fear for the future.

The book starts out in present day. Jim, and his terminally-ill wife Jennifer, spend their days waiting for the inevitable. Hope of a cure has worn them out. Eventually, Jim decides life without his true love was no life at all. Preparations are made. Then... a break through in science!

Without giving too much away, Jim and Jennifer agree to become part of a exciting new project. An experiment. And soon enough, Jim finds himself in a confusing new world. At first, 2080 is wonderful to Jim. No crime, no pollution, and a stable environment brings hope to Jim's heart. Maybe the future wasn't so bleak after all? But Jim decides to peek a bit closer. It seems all these 'good things' come at a price, a price Jim finds much too high.

I loved following Jim on his journey for truth. Like bread crumbs through the forest, I followed along, cringing with each new discovery. Jim knew the truth would be grim, but like the reader, he didn't want to believe it. Life seemed so much better in the future. Jim also knew his wife Jennifer was soon to wake up and join him in this Brave New World.

I really liked how Jim was thrown into a corner - looked upon by his fellow man as the savior of the world, but shunned and feared by those who truly brought the new world to fruition.

Dewayne Watts did a fantastic job weaving together a complicated, and quite suspenseful story. I often spent my spare time thinking about what I would do in Jim's situation.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys dystopian stories. It will make you question what you would be willing to give up for the 'good' of mankind."
