Legal Drug Addicts - Why Different From Drunkards?

This post may offend some.

Anyone over the age of 21 can walk into a store and buy beer, wine or other booze. If used in moderation there is nothing wrong with drinking these beverages. When a person starts to drink because they "need" to or with the goal of getting drunk then the person has an addiction to a legally obtained substance, the person has become addicted to a legal drug.
When we see a person addicted to the legal drug of beer, wine or booze it is easy to see that the person is out of control, needs help and has an addiction problem to a legal drug. In all cases when we see someone addicted to the legal and legally obtained drug of strong drink we know some sort of action must be taken.
But...
In America I could go to a doctor, describe a problem and get a legal prescription to Xanax, Oxytocin, Opioid's, Oxycodine, any type of psychiatric drug that alters my personality and although not "addictive" the doctor tells me it is "habit forming", and even pure Opiom.
So my doctor tells me that I need to take one or more of these highly addictive legal drugs and writes me the prescription, I get it filled and start taking a legally obtained highly addictive drug.
My family is the first to see changes in my behavior, I start to sleep more, I am more aggressive, I stop paying the bills because paying the house payment is a downer to my happiness, but buying a new computer, or clothes, or whatever makes me feel good. I also stop caring how I look and snap at people who tell me I need to clean up. I stay at home instead of going out, I feel better when I am alone to enjoy the way my legally obtained highly addicted drugs makes me feel.
When my family tells me I have changed since I started taking my legal drug I yell at them and explain
"My doctor told me I need them and I have to adjust to them and it takes time to get all the drugs balanced to work together."
That statement is much the same as the person who bought the exact same drugs on the street would say.
My point.
We see clearly when a person is addicted to beer or booze and that something must be done, but we are blind to legal drug addicts.
A drug addict is a drug addict. It does not matter if the doctor wrote the prescription for the drugs to be obtained legally or the addict bought the same exact same drugs on the street, the effect is the exact same. If you buy your drugs on the street or go to Walgreens the effect on the addict is the same. The long term effects are the same. In todays world all aspects of society accepts and tolerates legal drug addicts.
No one, in the right mind would get in a car with a drunk driver, or someone waisted on gabapentin (doses above 600mg has the same effect on the mind and judgement as being drunk) or oxytocin or some other legally addictive drug, but if a person is given a prescription, well that person does not view themselves the same as someone who is the addict that got them on the street. But the effect IS the same.
It is noteworthy that in most states, including Tennessee, if you take certain legal drugs, including almost all psychiatric drugs and then drive you fall under the same violation of drunk driving. DUI, driving under the influence, not drunk but influence. If you get pulled over while taking these legally addictive drugs and the officer gives you a sobriety test you will most likely fail, be arrested and go to jail. If you drive while taking these legally addictive drugs and get into an accident and kill someone you may be charged with manslaughter.
So what is the difference between the person who gets high on beer or booze and the person who pops a legally obtained addictive drug and gets high? Nothing except that in our society we accept, believe, trust, and tolerate legal drug addicts.
Am I saying that all these drugs are bad or do not help some? I can't speak for what others feel they have to take, but consider this, if you lived in say, well in most any other country, you would NOT have access to these highly addictive drugs. Only in America do people believe that what we have here is what others have everywhere. Not true. Much of what we have here is not available to the billions in the rest of the world. So what do they do? They don't have the option of running to a doctor and getting a legal addictive drug, they endure.
I have the freedom to speak on this matter. From 1996-2003 I allowed Plateau Mental Health to place me on as many as 12 different drugs, I was addicted and displayed all the same symptoms of addiction as a street user. My wife had the love, strength, and tanasty to give me an ultimatum. I loved my wife more than the drugs and flushed them all at once. Today I take no psychiatric drugs or addictive drugs. But around me I see some taking these drugs and it is altering their life and they can't see it themselves.
The facts are that some doctors are not aware of all the damage these drugs cause. They go by a chart and one dose fits all. A drug affects a woman differently than a man and science proves that women need far smaller doses than a man. Also we don't have dipsticks in our heads to pull and check if we are low on this or that. So a doctor prescribes gabapentin at 2,600mg a day, did you know that in some people 600mg a day will work. It amazes me that some doctors can't see the patient because of the chart.
We don't tolerate those who buy booze legally for the purpose of staying drunk, why do we currently tolerate legal drug addicts?
