But here is the oddest part.
When I was young I got my MMR (Mumps; Measles and Rubella – German Measles) I only got that vaccine ONCE; that is 1 time. I did not have to go back year after year and get the same MMR. When my children were young we got all the required vaccine shots for them, but only 1 time. They did not have to go back year after year to get the same vaccine. So I got to wondering, why does the government push the flu shot each year since it is by definition a VACCINE, meaning once vaccinated always vaccinated.
I looked up the current list of flu viruses and here is the link >http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/viruses/types.htm< notice there are only 3 strains flu viruses. So what is the 4th in the new shot? So after so many flu shots a person should NEVER have to take them again, yet each year EVERYONE is pushed to get the flu shot.
Now my wife and I and two sons have NEVER had the flu shot, NEVER. None of us have had the flu for decades. In fact the last time I can remember having the flu, the actual flu was in 1987. However we know people who get the flu shot and BAM! they get the flu that year. When they go to the doctor they are told the same line every time, “well this is a new strain” or “well the shot did not cover this strain”. Okay that is an excuse that a 5 year old would give when his hand is caught in the cookie jar.
I have never seen the logic in the flu VACCINE. Something that should protect you for life as the MMR is supposed to. But I do see something else in the flu shot. My wife worked in a nursing home for years and in the health care industry. Each year when the time came for the flu shot EVERY person in the nursing home was given one, about 20% of those people contracted the flu within a short period of time and DIED. Thinning out we used to call it.
One last thought on the flu shot. My wife’s father used to live with us. We took care of him when he was diagnosed with dementia. Prior to his diagnoses he never wanted a flu shot. He had to go into the hospital for a test and it required an overnight stay. My wife was asked (She was POA) if he had a flu shot and she said no and that he did not want one. She signed a notice refusing the flu shot. I always encouraged my wife to get copies of all medical records when checking out (doctors and hospitals HAVE to give you copies of that visit for FREE) and she did so. When we got home we noticed they gave him a flu shot anyway. She did ask and the hospital told her that the ER doctor ordered it over the objection of the signed refusal. We reported the matter to his attending doctor and filed a complaint against the hospital.
Nothing was ever done. My point. American’s DO NOT have a choice in the matter about the flu shot unless you are able to remove yourself from a situation and out of the hands of medical personal.
I personally feel that the flu shot is a thinning out of the sick and elderly. But that may just be my distrust talking.
