So JJ Abrams came in and saved Star Trek with 09 the first movie, but alas he failed iwth Star Wars, because Disney had gutted it.
So is there a save for Star Wars?
Yes, but it requires time travel, in a manner of speaking.
To the year 1991, just prior to that year a man named Zahn worked with Lucas Films and George to produce three novels, which by all rights was episode 7, 8 & 9. However when Disney bought Lucas Arts they scrapped the 3 books and trashed the last 3 movies. The 3 Zahn books are still considered the final work on Star Wars by the fans of the 1970's - 1980's without any doubts, and they actually follow the story picking up 5 years where Return left off.
