“How bad is it?” Scott asked.
“I think they are going to have to cut your leg off just below your sac.” I said.
“Na, just trying to rib you. It’s hard to tell in the darkness. But I don’t think I see any fresh blood. But I’m going to tear off a piece of my shirt and pull that skin back up to cover what I think is the knee cap. I’ll tie a strip of my shirt around your knee. Okay?”
“It’s going to hurt really bad, that’s why you’re telling me so I won’t scream out.”
With as much care as I could I took hold of the flap of skin that had been flayed and laid it back over his knee cap. Mud had encased itself in some of the folds, so with extra care I wiped it away with another piece of my shirt. Once I had the flap of skin back over the knee cap I took the strip of shirt that I had torn off and wrapped it around the flap of skin and his leg to hold it in place.
