From Twitter, to Facebook to real life I have been asked about the cover of my new novel.
My novel did not tell me it's title until I got to chapter 7, it told me it's cover design that night in a dream. (I just dreamed it, don't over think this).
So I sweet talked my wife into letting me use her as "Jennifer" sitting under the tree. We borrowed a large hat from a close friend and went to a park in a nearby town. I asked her to sit like I envisioned Jennifer would and took this photo.
I went home and removed some unwanted items from the photo (Corel Paintshop X4). I had already downloaded the public domain nuclear bomb photo, but it had negative damage from when it was taken in the 50's so I used the above program and cleaned those scratches up.
I then laid that photo on top of the park photo and placed the bottom at the top edge of the trees, then used the copy tool and copied nearby branches to make it so that part of the nuke could be seen through the trees. Then I used the aged paint look app and altered the entire photo. Of course there was a lot more to it than that. I also used the special effects Text tool to add the title.
