"Into the Storm" Bored Out of my Mind

8/30/2014

My wife & I went to see 'Into the Storm' with some friends last night. I was hoping for an edge of your seat good old fashion bang up movie.

Several Negs on this one:
1: Character development was flat. If the dialog had been better written perhaps the audience could have identified with the lead characters, as it was the dialog was so badly written that each line could have been quoted as they were cliche.
2: Did I mention badly written dialog.
3: The actors had one expression for every scene, expressionless. I spent most of my youth in Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas. If I were staring a tornado in the face I can tell you my face would have some very distorted expression and my shorts would be full. FEAR. I never saw it expressed on the face of any actor. Of course they were all no names so perhaps that answers the question.
4: When the kids were trapped under ruble and facing death, I saw no panic or fear, kids ARE NOT that calm. Ever hunkered down in a hallway at 2am during a tornado with kids, ya, screaming, panic and fear rule.
5: Errors in science and physics. Too many to detail, but they were there.
6: I was unable to experience the phenomenon known as 'separation of reality'. It is necessary when watching a movie so you can put yourself there and enjoy it.
7: The fire tornado was the only one that never moved, why, in the script so they could burn that poor man to death. So break the laws of physics for the sake of torching a man on screen.

Pos:

1: The two rednecks were the only characters that had depth. There expressions were real, and the actors looked like they had fun. If not for them I would give this move an F, as it is I give it a D-.

Don't give this movie your time. Run from it, not to it.

Good Novels Hard to Sell; Porn Easy

I'm on my 3rd novel, and my editor tells me it is the best. Well anyway some time back a local broadcast station in my area told the story of a couple that has published 3 indie novels, all "steamy romance novels" translation hot sex with different people, more popular word porn.
So I submitted my story, good novels about real life subject matter, but no steamy sex, never a reply, no word what so ever.
So my wife and I are watching the news about a week ago and an 82 year old lady writes a "romance novel" the news caster stated that it was so "hot" that they could not read it on the air. A little old lady writes a porn novel and it's all over the news. Again I submitted my story to that channel (a different one) and no reply.
If I was 90 years old and wrote porn I could get news coverage, but if you write anything else you get ignored regardless of how good you are. No wonder so may people write "romance novels" or porn, it sells. However I see myself as a serious writer and will never write junk just to sell a book.

3rd Novel - Medical Thriller Update

8/30/2014

Update on 3rd Novel:
I'm nearing the downside of my 3rd novel, a medical thriller; but it could easily be a SiFi or Political thriller.
I was writing yesterday and stumbled across a plot twist I never saw coming, very weird. Today I was proofing chapters 7 & 8 to email to my editor when I found myself on the edge of my seat, even though I wrote it my heart was pounding. Can't wait until it is done.
I have the cover completed and the title. Of course I can't post the cover or title just yet, fear of them being lifted.

Update on New Novel; A Medical Thriller

8/28/2014

My current medical thriller is moving along nicely. My wife and I went to a really nice park and I had her pose as “Jennifer” one of the main characters in the novel for the cover of the book. Yesterday I got the cover done. Amazon now allows for pre-order sales so I may list the book for sale in November, I am now hoping for a December 1st release date.
The novel is good (not bragging on myself but Cj says I am.) but the story is good. The way I am ending it does allow for a squeal, which I already have written in my mind. But I will only put on paper if sales are good. Now a squeal is not necessary since the novel does end the current subject matter, but I do leave the door open for one. I like the plot of the squeal as much as I like the plot for the one I am about to finish. Overall it is a really good, weird, medical thriller. I have never seen this subject matter approached or the way I am developing it. I have read a lot of books but I have never read one that approached medical science the way I am.
I do approach some current news items and work them in the novel. I have also discovered just how predictable politics is. In chapter 6 I deal with many current events in the world and the way politicians are dealing with them. Well in one matter I wrote it long before events have reached their current level and I worth the reactions of the politicians involved. I was surprised the other day to watch the news and see the exact same reaction out of the leaders of the world. I went back and re-read that chapter and thought wow. But Cj tells me I am not a prophet, but in this case world leaders are just easy to predict their actions. Of course since my book will not be released until December readers will believe chapter 6 was written after the facts. But again I did not predict the future, just politicians ALWAYS follow the same course regardless of what party they are.

Bleach Burned Arm

8/28/2014

The Story:

Our front porch has white Soffit on the ceiling. It's about 14' long and 6' wide, so a large area. It was dirty, probably not washed since it was built in 2007. Mildew was all over it.
So Cj bought two gallons of bleach. I poured it into a standard garden pump sprayer and started in the back around the back door. Simba (Shai’s new cat has decided that was his litter box) I sprayed the flower beds around the back door, hopefully to change the smell for Simba so he would get the message. I used almost a gallon in that area and up the siding, looks good.
I then came around front to spray the porch. I had to hold the spray wand overhead and that allowed bleach to form streams down my arm. Over and over and over the bleach ran along the same path. The photo is the end result. I burned it with bleach.
It still is uncomfortable and when I take even a warm shower I am reminded of the burning. So I take just solid cold showers, any heat and I am reminded of the rivers of bleach.
So if you have to bleach your house don’t do as I did. I can’t think of anything someone can do to avoid bleach running down your body, or in your mouth, eyes, hair, well everywhere, but maybe keep the water hose on and spray yourself down every few minutes.
