The above article appeared in the most recent issue of Maximum PC. I was stunned. When Apple made the switch to x86 Windows XP was the Microsoft OS of choice and it could not compete with iOS. But now it is 2020 and things are much different. Windows 10 is stable and for the foreseeable future Microsoft does not intend any major alterations or any NEW OS. So Windows 10 has become a strong long lasting stable OS.
Then Apple does the above. Cost saving for them yes but for Apple users NO! Consider once Apple starts to roll out the ARM architecture on laptops and desktops the support for the x86 will dry up. Apple must force users to ditch their x86 hardware in favor of the ARM, so it is only logical Apple will stop the support and perhaps even cause issues with the iOS on x86. Keep in mind Apple is the great denier of unjust action on their part they have a long history of it.
What is more, all existing software for the x86 systems will not run on the ARM systems, so users will be forced to buy a new system as well as new software.
Now here is my question. A company running 200 x86 Apple systems in 2020, will they seriously invest tens of thousands of dollars not to upgrade but buy entirely new systems and software? Some may but I do not foresee all of them doing so. Non-profit org will not be able to justify the purchase.
