Okay, some time back I bought an Acer Aspire laptop, it came w/Win8. For Win8 I hated it, but tried to accept. However my cursor would jump around when typing, almost as if possessed. It was not malware. So I bought Win7 thinking it was the Win8 driver. But the issue still existed. The driver for this laptop is the same from Vista to Win8.1. I was ready to install Ubuntu but opted to check Acers site for a driver update. I was seeking a BIOS update since the boot options were on a flash & not on the HDD. Sure enough Acer had a BIOS update. I wanted the BIOS update because at MS request OEM's were locking down the BIOS to prevent the removal of Win8 or duel booting. I flashed the BIOS & it restored options to easily allow users to install what they want, the flash also fixed my keyboard. Why? The Aspire I have has a backlit keyboard and I always suspected that to be the issue, the backlight is a pad under the keyboard that rest on magnets. I figured the pad was getting warm and shorting out. I took the thing apart several times and realized I was right and considered leaving the power ribbon to the backlight disconnected, but never did. The BIOS update disabled the backlight on the keyboard and my keyboard works perfect. So I am once again happy with my laptop.
