$12.77 Saves #Chase Manhattan Bank
On August 13th 2014 I logged into my Chase account to -0- out the balance. I was given two options of a payoff balance, one was slightly higher. I choose the higher option, ensured the balance said -0- and logged out.
Toward the first of September I got the standard email for making a payment, I logged into the account and it still showed a -0- balance, so I figured I got the email because I had not been deleted from the system yet.
Toward the first of October I got another email, this time I did not log into my former account. On October 6, 2014 I got a letter explaining that I had a past due amount of $12.56. I thought WHAT! So I called the number on the letter, here is the story.
On August 3rd 2014 I went to Walmart and used the card for a purchase. My billing cycle ended on August 15th 2014, but I paid my card off on August 13th 2014. Now when I paid my card off as I mentioned I had two options, the “Today’s Balance” or a slightly higher balance. I choose the higher balance, on August 13th 2014 when I paid it off the balance showed -0-.
BUT WAIT! Guess what! On August 15th 2014 Chase ADDED the interest from the purchase of August 3rd 2014, even though I paid off the higher balance. The $12.56 was that interest. But there is more. It did not show up on the September statement. WHAT!
Okay hold on readers because it’s gonna get weird.
Because I did not pay the $12.56 in September (yes remember I did not have a statement showing anything due in September) I was hit with a LATE FEE! WHAT? You say. Yes a LATE FEE for interest that was added to a non-existing balance on a card that I opted to pay off the higher balance. The last fee was for .21 cents.
Okay I agree a total of $12.77 is not a lot, but remember I did pay off the higher balance not the month ending balance or that day’s balance. Also the interest was added two days AFTER I paid off the balance to make it -0- and the interest payment did not show up on September’s statement.
So think about it. I paid off the higher balance on August 13th, was hit with interest for a charge made on August 3rd on August 15th, and that interest payment was not on the September’s statement so I was charged a late fee of .21 cents.
Now I never lost my temper or used any bad words or yelled, but I did tell the rep that she knew what Chase had done was morally wrong. She stated; now get this; “Well if something rolls over to next month we’ll see what we can do.”
Really? I told her that I did not believe her because since what Chase did was morally wrong they would attempt to correct the matter right now. So I expect to be billed for something next month.
I figure since Chase was hacked they are going to nickel and dime the American public for whatever nation hacked their system.  To be honest if Chase did as good of a job at protecting their system from hackers as they do at shaking down honest people…well they got their $12.77.
